Last week, a team of Esperanza staff members attended the 2015
Christian Community Health Fellowship (CCHF) conference in Atlanta (
http://www.cchf.org). CCHF’s
Mission is to
“educate, encourage and equip Christians to live out the gospel through healthcare among the poor.” Esperanza is one of over 280 CCHF member organizations nationwide. Conference speakers included Dr. John Perkins, one of CCHF’s co-founders and a leader for many decades in Christian community development, Dr. Gil Odendaal of World Relief and Esperanza’s Executive Director, Dr. Susan Post. Said Alan Popoli, Esperanza’s HR Manager: “The CCHF conference gave me a new vision for the scope of the movement of Christian health centers…It was very encouraging to share with my co-workers some time to refocus ourselves on our purpose, mission, and values, and to be refreshed in the Spirit and reminded of central truths for our work!”
New Community Health Promoters to Graduate!
In 2010, Esperanza’s vision for community health outreach in partnership with local churches came to fruition with the first graduating class of our
Community Health Promoters. Now, five years later, our newest class of 26 Promoters will graduate on May 8th. They are the first class to use our new
Health Promoter Toolkits, bilingual illustrated educational guides on topics such as diabetes and physical fitness. “We are so proud of our participants who have been using the Toolkits to teach others in the community!” said Lara Lahr, RN, one of Esperanza’s Health Promoter class instructors. “We know they have used them at least 40 times in the community, with 10 of those being in a group setting. One participant even used her Toolkit to teach on the radio!”
