Esperanza Celebrates National Health Center Week 2018

This past week, Esperanza and community health centers across the United States celebrated National Health Center Week (NHCW). Held annually for more than 30 years, NHCW raises awareness of health needs in our communities, and the importance of the work that more than 1,000 federally-qualified health centers, including Esperanza, are doing to deliver high-quality care and to develop innovative solutions to promote health.

This year’s NHCW theme was “Celebrating Health Centers: Home of America’s Health Care Heroes”….and, to celebrate at Esperanza, we recognized nine of our very own “Health Care Heroes” as nominated by their colleagues. Our Health Care Heroes are (below, L to R, top row to bottom row): Cyndi Díaz; Ana Lapp, RN; Sandra Lopez, RN; Tabitha Miller, RD, LDN, CDE; Stephanie Stanford; Jonathan Montenegro; Amy Liao, DDS; Sasha Rivera; and, Rachel Kim. You can read more about each of our Heroes and their thoughts on what it means to serve our patients and community at https://esperanzahealth.com/our-health-care-heroes/.

Book Fiesta at Esperanza!

Earlier this month, we partnered with Vocatio Career Prep School by hosting a “Book Fiesta” at our Hunting Park gymnasium. Over 100 kids from two summer camps held by Ayuda Community Center and 8th Street Community Church joined in the fun, and each child who participated received free books! The Book Fiesta event was the conclusion of one of Vocatio’s Community Entrepreneurship Initiative projects for 2018, as a team of Vocatio students invested in literacy promotion among children and youth in North Philadelphia’s Hunting Park neighborhood.
