LifeStyle Medicine Class: Improve Your Health in Community
Our Lifestyle Medicine class helps you learn ways to improve your health through exercise, diet, stress management, and other lifestyle changes. It is an evidence-based medical specialty class taught by Dr. Daniel Chen, MD, FACP, DipABLM, that helps people prevent, optimize, and recover from a vast range of chronic diseases. The Lifestyle Medicine Class highlights the American College of Lifestyle Medicine’s six pillars of health:
- Regular Physical Activity
- Whole food, plant-predominant nutrition
- Restorative Sleep
- Stress Management
- Positive Social Connection
- Avoidance of Risky Substances
Dr. Chen started the Lifestyle Medicine class in 2021 with for Esperanza staff to participate in. He inspired many of our employees to want to take care of themselves by changing their eating patterns, getting better sleep, becoming more active, improving relationships, and more. By the summer of 2022, Lifestyle Medicine became a weekly gathering of 15-20 in the garden located behind our Hunting Park site, where Dr. Chen prepared a whole food, plant-based lunch. During weekly sessions, class time is divided by demystifying a medical topic followed by a live demonstration of one of Dr. Chen’s original recipes! The goal of this class is to encourage a community journeying together to heal and safeguard the wellness of our North Philadelphia community
