Currently, Esperanza has nearly 200 employees, and the majority of our staff members also live in the neighborhoods of North Philadelphia served by our health center. Our staff includes both life-long north Philadelphia residents, and relative newcomers who have relocated from other parts of the U.S. and even other countries to serve here. Primary Care Physicians

Dentist

Esperanza Health Center seeks a full-time Dentist.  The Staff Dentist is responsible for providing clinical dental services and preventive dental care in a community health center setting.  The Staff Dentist supervises the dental assistants and dental hygienists of the community health center in the absence of the Lead Dentist.

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the Commonwealth of PA, required
  • Current CPR (BLS) certification, required

Associate Director of Operations

Associate Director of Operations

Esperanza Health Center seeks a full-time Associate Director of Operations.  The Associate Director-Operations (ADO) works in conjunction with the Director of Operations to lead existing operations and future operational programs. The ADO is responsible for business development and enhancement of Esperanza’s ancillary services supporting our health and wellness programs. This position will be responsible to ensure that these services are financially sustainable and aligned with community needs and Esperanza’s strategic plan. Other responsibilities include planning, developing, and overseeing the management of Esperanza’s healthy cafés, fitness centers and programs, and other future programs at the Kensington and Hunting Park sites; working collaboratively to identify additional opportunities to meet emerging community needs, developing appropriate business plans, leading the implementation of new programs and managing ongoing operations; planning and oversight of renovations, custodial and facilities maintenance projects and teams; participating in Esperanza’s Compliance Team, oversight of security operations; planning and budgeting for capital equipment, ongoing repairs, and supplies; and participating in the management team leading the organization. The ADO reports to the Director of Operations.

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Business, or 5 years’ experience in planning, developing and implementing business operations.
  • Strong skills in financial analysis and business planning.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred with strong cross-cultural skills.
  • Demonstrated strong spiritual leadership and able to integrate faith with daily business operations and management of staff.

Billing Specialist

Esperanza Health Center seeks a part-time Billing Specialist.  The Billing Specialist is responsible for preparing and submitting clean claims (electronically or paper) to various insurance; posting hospital charges and home visit charges, insurance payments/remittances, and patient receipts. This position is responsible for maintaining up-to-date responses to claim denials and correspondence with insurance and performing various collection actions for past due balances from insurance and patient payments which includes review rejected claims and take appropriate actions, including re-billing or transferring bills to second insurance or to the patient. The ideal candidate will work in harmonious partnership with the billing team, health center staff and volunteers to further Esperanza’s mission and vision, to accomplish common goals, and to coordinate various activities.

Education, Skills, and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED, required
• One or more years of medical billing experience, preferred
• Working knowledge of medical billing/collection practices, third-party operating procedures and practices, ICD/CPT coding, and medical terminology

Cafe Team Member

Esperanza Health Center seeks a part-time Cafe Team Member. The Cafe Team Member is responsible for providing healthy food options for the patients, staff and the general public connected to the clinic community.  The Cafe Team Member performs the food preparation, customer service and kitchen sanitation tasks. Additional responsibilities include driving and purchasing goods and supplies; stocking café supplies; operating the cash register; monitoring the functioning of equipment; and opening and closing the café for operation depending on the shift.  This position is 23 hours/week.

Clerical Assistant

Esperanza Health Center seeks a full-time Clerical Assistant.  The Clerical Assistant is responsible for registering patients’ demographics, insurance, and financial information into the EMR prior to service.  Clerical Assistants utilize insurance websites or directly contact insurance companies to verify eligibility and to confirm provider assignment.  Other responsibilities include preparing fee tickets prior to clinical visit, notating all issues concerning insurance problems or missing documentation.

Dispensary Manager

Esperanza Health Center seeks a full-time Dispensary Manager.  The Dispensary Manager is responsible to oversee all dispensing operations of Esperanza Health Center’s dispensary operations.  Supervises dispensary staff, ensuring they are properly trained.  Facilitates smooth and efficient operations.  Occasionally works directly in dispensaries to cover staff absences.  Reports to the Director of Operations.

Electronic Medical Records Support Specialist

Esperanza Health Center seeks a full-time Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Support Specialist.  The EMR Support Specialist plays a key role in providing technical expertise and direct support and ongoing training for staff using Esperanza’s GE Centricity EMR.  By working closely with the clinical staff for training and support, the EMR Support Specialist is actively involved in identifying and implementing enhancements and improvements to workflows and system features.  Primary responsibilities include directing IT desk support, conducting EMR training sessions and follow-up, performance and process improvement, content development for workflow analysis, and maintaining EMR permissions and user lists.

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred: Healthcare-related, Information Technology, Communication, Project Management, or other related degree

Medical Assistant

Esperanza Health Center, seeks a full-time Medical Assistant. The Medical Assistant will serve as a member of the Medical Assistant team providing support of the clinicians and in the provision of safe and whole person care to our patients. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for preparing adults and children for exams and assists adult practitioners and pediatricians. They will address the needs of walk-in and call-in patients; help make arrangements for needed follow up. The Medical Assistant may also perform phlebotomy, cover the dispensary role, tend to orderliness, cleanliness and stocking of exam rooms between patient visits; assist in organizing storage areas; and nurture the spiritual growth of team members and patients.

This role will assist in teaching the Community Health Promoters and mentoring graduates in using their skills within their community while building on community assets. The Nurse Educator will also develop and connect health promoters to educational opportunities to further their growth.  In conjunction with the Community Health and Wellness Department, the Nurse Educator will be responsible for assisting with program initiatives ensuring measurable outcomes that improve overall community health and wellbeing.  This position is part-time. Some evening and weekend hours required.

  • RN, BSN preferred with 3-5 years of nursing experience.

Social Services Manager

Social Services Manager

Esperanza Health Center seeks a full-time Social Services Manager.  The Social Services Manager provides social services at designated Esperanza Health Center sites, addressing patient needs which predispose illness or interfere with benefit from medical care.  This includes assisting the uninsured with Marketplace, Medicaid, and/or CHIP insurance applications, HIV testing and counseling in a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to client-centered care.   Other responsibilities include serving as an advocate for patients, providing spiritual intervention for patients and sharing hope, building relationships with resource organizations, providing health insurance education and application assistance, managing case notes and properly documenting services provided, and tracking and following up on social services referrals.

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, preferred; equivalent education/experience considered
  • 2+ years of social services experience; social work in a medical environment preferred

Triage Nurse / Assistant Clinical Supervisor

Triage Nurse / Assistant Clinical Supervisor

Esperanza Health Center seeks a full-time Triage Nurse (RN) / Assistant Clinical Supervisor.  The Triage Nurse / Assistant Clinical Supervisor provides triage nursing care to Esperanza patients and supervises clinical support staff at our 5th street clinic.  Nursing responsibilities include: assessing needs of walk-in and call-in patients, patient health education, coordinating follow-up and referrals for complex patients, providing holistic spiritual care, and performing basic Medical Assistant duties as needed.  Supervisory responsibilities include providing direct supervision to Medical Assistants at Esperanza’s 5th Street location, monitoring vaccine and clinical supply inventories, in-house lab compliance and quality controls.  This position reports to and collaborates with the Director of Nursing to ensure that efficient, safe, and quality care is provided by the clinical support staff at the 5th street site.

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license required; college graduate (BSN), preferred
  • Bilingual in English & Spanish, or willingness to participate in overseas language training, required
  • At least 1-2 years’ experience providing clinical services, preferably in a hospital setting, preferred
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience, strongly preferred
